Recently, I’ve been feeling pretty down in the dumps due to some family issues. When I’m sad, I usually listen to depressing songs or watch depressing movies. Afterwards, I have a large crying session, then the clouds seem to lift just a little and I’m okay again.
“Rainbow Song” is one of those heart wrenching movies that I watch to bring myself to an all low point. Although the story line is predictable (and not as strong as I thought it could have been), what I really enjoyed about the movie are how the characters were portrayed by the actors/actresses, as well as how the movie was filmed.
Perhaps I’m speaking from a biased point of view however, simply because I really love Ueno Juri who plays the main character Aoi. I first noticed Juri-san when I watched “Nodame Cantabile”; her portrayal of Nodame was spot on. It was quite interesting to see her act as a much more serious character.
One of the quotes inside the movie really stood out to me: “What ended…was just me”. The line felt almost monumental when I read it on the screen. There is a feeling of helplessness to it, which I can certainly relate to currently.
All in all, “Rainbow Song” is a beautiful movie that speaks about just how precious life is.
